Andaman & Nicobar Command to Host Milan 2018

  • MILAN is a congregation of littoral navies conducted biennially by Indian Navy at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, under the aegis of the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
  • Navies from various countries will participate in this event.
  • MILAN 2018 is being held at Port Blair from 06 March to 13 March 2018.
  • The underlying theme is ‘Friendship Across the Seas’. 
  • A seminar will be also organized with the theme ‘In Pursuit of Maritime Good Order – Need for Comprehensive Information Sharing Apparatus’.

DRDO Successfully Test Flight Rustom 2

  • A medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle, Rustom 2 or TAPAS-BH-201 has been developed by India on the lines of the American Predator drones.
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on 24Feb successfully flew its Rustom 2 at its Aeronautical Test Range at Chalakere in Chitradurga district of Karnataka.
  • It can fly for 24 hours in one stretch.
  • The combat aerial vehicle can conduct sustained surveillance and can carry weapons along with surveillance equipment.

21st National Conference on e-Governance begins

  • 21st National Conference will start from 26th Feb in Hyderabad.
  • The Conference is organized by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and Telangana government.
  • The theme of the Conference this year is, ‘Technology for accelerating Development’.

 Michael McCormack named Australia's new deputy prime minister

  • Michael McCormack, 53, was chosen by the Nationals - the junior partner in the governing Liberal-National coalition – to take over as leader and deputy PM in a party-room vote.
  • Previously, Barnaby Joyce has announced his resignation as Nationals leader and deputy prime minister of Australia after weeks of fallout over his affair with a former staffer.

 FinMin puts out list of 9500 high-risk finance companies

  • Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has released a list of around 9500 Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), which have been categorised as high-risk financial institutions.
  • The FIU under the Finance Ministry has released the list on its website showing the names of these NBFCs which have been found non-compliant to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act rules.
  • As per the PMLA, all NBFCs have to appoint a principal officer in the financial institutions and report all suspicious and cash transactions of over ten lakh rupees to the FIU. But, these companies have been found not following this rules as on 31st of January this year.
  • After the demonetisation of high-value currency notes in November 2016, NBFCs and several rural and urban cooperative banks had come under the scanner of the Income Tax Department and the ED for illegally converting banned currency notes.

 C Mary Kom bags Silver medal in Strandja Memorial Boxing tournament

  • Mary Kom won silver in the 69th Strandja Memorial boxing tournament held in Sofia (Bulgaria). She lost to Bulgaria's Sevda Asenova.
  • In total, women boxers bagged total 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.
  • In the men’s final (49kg), Amit Panghal claimed his second consecutive international gold.
  • Amit (49kg), who fetched the top honours at last month’s India Open, defeated Morocco’s Said Mordaji in the finals.

 Gopi Thonakal retains his title at New Delhi Marathon

  • Reigning Asian Champion Gopi Thonakal ran his personal best to retain his title at the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon in New Delhi on Sunday.
  • Gopi clocked 02:15:16 hour, to clinch the gold under ideal running conditions but missed the tough Commonwealth Games qualification mark set by the Athletics Federation of India.
  • In the women’s event , Monika Athare retained her title by clocking 2:43:46 hour.

 Badminton: Parupalli Kashyap clinches Men's Singles title at Austrian Open

  • Parupalli Kashyap bagged his first international title in over three years after defeating Malaysia’s June Wei Cheam in the men’s singles final of the Austrian Open International Challenge badminton tournament in Basel on Saturday.
  • The 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist who had battled with injuries in the last few years, did not drop a game in the Austrian Open.

 Closing Ceremony ends Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang

  • The PyeongChang Olympics have ended with a spectacular closing ceremony that once again saw athletes from North and South Korea marching together.
  • The US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump was also present at the event.
  • Both Korean countries competed as one team in the women’s hockey and marched under a unified flag at the opening and closing ceremonies.
  • Norway got highest number of medals with 39, a winter Olympic record. Germany was second on the medals table with 31 medals while Canada finished third with 29.

PM Modi flags off 'Run for New India' Marathon in Surat

  • Indian PM Narendra Modi flagged off the ‘Run for New India’ marathon in Surat held on Sunday.
  • The Marathon is aimed at creating awareness about social causes and call upon all to resolve to build a New India.
  • Around 1.50 lakh runners participated in the 'Run for New India' marathon which was organized by the Surat Nagrik Samiti.
  • Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, Memeber of Parliament C.R Patil and many other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
