EXPLAINED : “KAPILA” KALAM PROGRAM

Context

'KAPILA' Kalam Program for Intellectual Property Literacy was launched.

Details

  • It was launched on the 89th birth anniversary of former President and Scientist Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
  • Under this campaign, students pursuing education in higher educational institutions will get information about the correct system of application process for patenting their invention and they will be aware of their rights.
  • The government will facilitate the colleges and institutions to encourage more and more students to file patents.

What is Intellectual Property?

  • It refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce.
  • It is protected in law by, for example, patents, copyright and trademarks, which enable people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they invent or create.

About A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

  • He was born on 15 October 1931 at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
  • He is known as Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam.
  • He specialized in Aeronautical Engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology.
  • He became 11th President of India(2007-2012).
  • He is known as the Missile Man of India.
  • He worked as an aerospace engineer with the Defence Research and DevelopmentOrganization (DRDO).
