FIVE-POINT REFORM AGENDA FOR FCI

FIVE-POINT REFORM AGENDA FOR FCI

Context:

Food Minister Shri Piyush Goyal unveiled the 5-point reform agenda for FCI or 5 Sutras on the 58th Foundation Day of Food Corporation of India (FCI). The agenda aims to improve the FCI.

Five points:

  • Changing the public perception of FCI:

➢Currently the public sees FCI as ineffective and corrupt. This vision is now about to be transformed

into an inclusive, powerful and credible organisation.

  • Focus on the end-to-end of technology solutions:

➢This includes everything from purchase to delivery. This should be achieved by reducing the

response time of the PDS and by properly tracking food grains. Ultimately, this will lead to a free

         reward for an efficient system.

  • Establish a grievance redressal mechanism:

➢This will help to reduce the reaction time to the problem. Also, it will help to address the issues of

the farmers' organisation, especially those who are most depressed. This will be achieved through

         the plans of “Jan Jagrukta”.

  • Planning and creating modern infrastructure and assets.

➢It will upgrade warehouses to international

        standards.

➢The agenda includes increasing power storage                capacity, network space and CCTV.

➢It will expand international processes and make              India a "food hub".
