Four Years of E-NAM complete

The e-NAM, which is the online trading platform for the National Agriculture Market portal, has completed four years of its implementation on 14 April 2020. The objective of the website is to realize the vision of the ‘One Nation, One Market’ for Agricultural produce.

Key Points:

  • e-NAM is managed by the Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium(SFAC) for activities related to the Agriculture Produce Market Committee(APMC).
  • The e-NAM now consists of 585 mandis and will be expanded to cover 415 new mandis that will take the total to 1000.
  • e-NAM is reforming the agricultural products market in India by connecting traders with producers.
  • More than 1.66 crore farmers are registered on the e-NAM platform, and 1.28 Lakh registered traders are also present.
  • Farmers can upload their products online for sale, the trader’s bid for the uploaded produce that are available and this bidding can be made across all mandis from any location.
  • Till now the total volume of trade recorded of bulk commodities has been 3.39 Crore MT and 37 Lakh numbers of Bamboo and Coconut worth approximately Rs One Lakh crore.
  • The portal was started initially with 25 commodities and now has expanded to cover 150 commodities on the e-NAM platform.
  • Quality assaying testing facilities are being provided in e-NAM mandis which helps farmers in getting prices commensurate with the quality of their produce. No. of lots of assayed has increased from 01 lakh in 2016-17 to nearly 37 lakh lots in 2019-2020.
  • Several states like Jharkhand have started farm gate trading through the online platform of the National Agriculture Market.
  • There has been an increase in the inter-mandi trade both within and, more recently, between states in about 20 commodities which comprise vegetables, pulses, cereals, oilseeds, spices etc.
