Hindi Diwas is observed on 14th of September every year. The Hindi, written in Devangari script was declared as the official Language of India by the constituent Assembly on 14th of September 1949 on the occasion of 50th birth anniversary of Behor Rajendra Simha(He was the pro-Hindi speaker). This decision of constituent assembly was later approved by the constitution of India(under article 343), which came into effect on 26th of January 1950.So, Hindi Diwas is Celebrated to remember this historic occasion.
This year on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Home Minister Amit Shah presented the Rajbhasha Awards to the chiefs of various Ministries, departments and offices for their contribution in promoting language.
Hindi is spoken by 40 percent of people in India.It is the single largest spoken language among the 22 scheduled languages in the sixth schedule of the Indian constitution.It is 4th most spoken language in the world after Mandarin, Spanish and English.
