HRD Minister launches most affordable COVID-19 test kit developed by IIT Delhi

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has produced the most affordable COVID-19 test Kit called ‘Corosure’. The test kit was launched by the Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Minister of State for HRD Sanjay Dhotre.

Key Points:

  • The ‘Corosure’ test kit has been manufactured by New Tech Medical Devices and will be made accessible to all the diagnostic centres and hospitals.
  • The company ‘COROSURE’ is among the few companies that have obtained the non-exclusive license from IIT Delhi to develop the COVID-19 test kit based on probe free RT-PCR(Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction).
  • The test kit employs an alternative testing mechanism for testing Covid-19 samples.
  • The complete kit costs about Rs.650 in comparison to those kits that are being imported from foreign countries.
  • The development of the kit will change the paradigm of Covid-19 testing in India, in terms of cost and scaling.
  • Using the technology provided by IIT Delhi, two million tests can be conducted every month at affordable prices and is a true example of a lab to market.
  • The product has received the approval of the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
