ICAR released two kits for the control of Swine and Detection of Antigen

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) along with the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) has released two diagnostic kits. 

They are:

  • Bluetongue Sandwich ELISA (sELISA)
  • Japanese Encephalitis IgM ELISA kit 

Key Points:

  • These diagnostic kits are developed under the Make in India initiative. 
  • Bluetongue sandwich ELISA (sELISA) kit can be used to detect Antigen and to control the Bluetongue (BT) Virus. The Bluetongue (BT) Virus is an insect-transmitted viral disease is widespread among the sheep, goats, cattle, buffaloes, and camels.
  • Japanese Encephalitis IgM ELISA kit helps to access data about infection of the Japanese Encephalitis virus in the swine population to predict the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis virus in humans. Japanese Encephalitis is a re-emerging viral zoonotic disease leading to the death of children every year in the country.
