Importance of Organ Donation Day

On 30 November 2019 India observed the 10th Indian Organ Donation Day. Dr Harsh Vardhan presided over 10th Indian Organ Donation Day at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The celebration was organised by NOTTO (National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization). In India, Organ Donation Day is celebrated on the 13th of August every year. This is done by government organisations, people and other related professions, so as to motivate people to donate organs and also to understand the value of organ donation in an individual life.

Key Points:

  • The organ donor can be any one of which the organ can be transplanted to the patient urgently requires. The organ that is donated by the average human being is adequately saved to transplant that into the patient whenever he/she needs. One can get the new life through the organ transplantation donated by someone.
  • According to a report, around 5 lakh Indians die every year because of the failure of their major functioning organs.
  • Organ transplantation plays a major role in their beautiful life by increasing their period of living a life more than expectations.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To create awareness among the people about the need for organ donation. 

2. To spread the messages of organ donation all over the country. 

3. To remove the hesitations of people about donating organs. 

4. To encourage and motivate more people to organ donation.

Which all organs can be donated? 

Kidney, Lungs, Heart, Eye, Liver, Pancreas, Cornea, Small Intestine, Skin tissues, Bone tissues, Heart valves, Veins etc..
