INCOME LIMIT OF DISABLED DEPENDENTS FOR FAMILY PENSION

Context:

Ministry of Defence, Government of India has decided to improve access to enhance the income criteria for grant of family pension to children/siblings suffering from mental or physical disabilities.

Key Highlights:

• Child/sibling will be able to receive a family pension for life, provided that his or her gross income from sources other than the family pension remains below the normal pension amount of 30% of the final payment paid by the deceased employee / affected pension there.
• Financial benefits in such cases will increase from 08.02.2021.
• Currently, a disabled child/sibling is entitled to a family pension if the monthly income of a child/relative with a disability from sources other than the family pension does not exceed Rs. 9,000 / - along with dearness relief thereon.

Ministry of Defence:

• It coordinates and supervises all agencies and functions of the government relating directly to national security and the Indian armed forces.
• The President of India is the ceremonial commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the country.
• The Ministry of Defence provides a policy framework and resources to the armed forces to discharge their responsibility in the context of the defence of the country.
