India-Senegal Signed Three MoUs

Context: During his three-nation tour, the vice president, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, reached Senegal on 1st February 2022.

Key points of MOUs:

1. The first MoU pertains to a visa-free regime for Diplomatic and Official passport holders, strengthening cooperation between the two countries through seamless travel of officials/diplomats.
2. The second agreement relates to the renewal of the Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) for 2022-26. Appreciating the richness of Indian and Senegalese culture, Shri Naidu expressed confidence that with the renewal of the CEP, there will be more cultural exchanges, thereby strengthening our people-to-people contacts.
3.The third MoU seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation in youth matters. Both India and Senegal have a relatively young population; this MoU will benefit our two countries by sharing information, knowledge and good practices, and youth exchanges.
Indo-Senegalese trade saw a 37% increase to US$ 1.5 billion during the last year despite the Covid-19 pandemic. These MoUS will further help deepen the economic relations between India and Senegal. The steps will further help diversify India’s trade basket, particularly in the sectors of Agriculture, Oil & Gas, Health, Railways, Mining, Defence, green energy etc.
