INDIAN NAVAL SHIP SAVITRI DEPARTS TO DELIVER MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO BANGLADESH UNDER MISSION SAGAR

Context:

The Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Savitri departed from Visakhapatnam on August 30, 2021, and headed to Chittagong, Bangladesh to support the ongoing efforts of Bangladeshi troops and government agencies in the fight against the ongoing Covid epidemic in their country.

INS Savitri’s Arrival:

  • The ship will arrive on 02 September carrying two 960 LPM Medical Oxygen Plants (MOP) plants, one for each Bangladesh Navy and Dhaka Medical College.

About INS Savitri:

  • It is an Offshore Patrol Vessel Indigenous Indian Navy under the Eastern Naval Command based in Visakhapatnam.
  • As part of the vision of the Indian Government of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), the Indian Navy has been cooperating with the countries of the region and has been at the forefront of many humanitarian activities covering the Indian Ocean including South / South East Asia and East Africa.
  • Earlier, the Indian Naval Ship Shakti had taken 100 T of LMO to Colombo, Sri Lanka, while INS Airavat has now been sent to South East Asia to send medical aid to Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
