British Empire (1600-1947): Quick Summary

  • The British East Indian Company (EIC) came to India in 1600 AD as traders.
  • EIC was founded in 1600 to trade with East Indies. Here, East Indies include South Asia and South East Asia.
  • EIC had exclusive rights to trade with India.
  • IN 1765, EIC obtained Diwani Rights of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa.
  • IN 1858, British Crown took the command in their hands after 1857 mutiny.
  • And this rule continued till Indian independence in 1947.
  • In the next chapter, various regulations and acts have been discussed upon which Indian constitution finds its origin.
