Integrated Landscape Management Plan for Greater Panna Landscape

Context: Shri Pankaj Kumar, Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, has released the final report of the Integrated Landscape Management Plan for Greater Panna Landscape on 1st June 2022.

Key Points:  

• This plan has been prepared in respect of the Ken-Betwa Link Project by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII). WII came up with detailed site-specific inputs for the implementation of the proposed activities.
• The plan provides for better habitat protection and management of flagship species such as Vultures, Tigers, and Gharial. 
• The plan aims to holistically consolidate the landscape for biodiversity conservation and human well-being, especially in forest-dependent communities. 
• The plan is expected to enhance tiger carrying capacity in the landscape by strengthening connectivity with the Nauradehi wildlife sanctuary and Durgavatiwildlife sanctuary in MP, and Ranipurwildlife sanctuary in UP.

This project will provide enormous benefits to the districts of Tikamgarh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Shivpuri, Sagar, Datia, Vidisha, and Raisen of Madhya Pradesh and Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi & Lalitpur of Uttar Pradesh.
