Interministerial Scheme ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ launched by SERB

The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) functioning under the Department of Science and Technology has launched the Inter-Ministerial Scheme ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ (AV) on 1 July 2020.

Key Points:

  • Under the scheme, a single platform will be provided for capacity building programs, research internships and workshops throughout the country. Applications for the Winter Season have already been called under its ‘ABHYAAS’ component.
  • The main aim of the inter-ministerial scheme is to offer more push to encouraging high-end scientific research and preparing scientific manpower, that can help in building a knowledge-based economy and research careers.
  • Under the scheme, research potential will be identified, mentored, trained and provided with hands-on workshops on a national scale.
  •  The scheme aims to strengthen and expand the research base with three broad goals, viz. consolidation of all scientific programs, creation of opportunities for internships in research and starting high-end orientation workshops, for individuals without access to such facilities and resources. An app concerned with the scheme will also be launched in the coming months.
  • The ‘ABHYAAS’ programme aims to boost research and development in the country by grooming and to facilitate potential PG/PhD students by developing their skills in research in selected areas in various disciplines. The programme has two parts Research Internships (‘VRITIKA’) and High-End Workshops (‘KARYASHALA’).
  • AV has a component called ‘SAMMOHAN’ which is sub-divided into ‘SANGOSHTI’ and‘SAYONJIKA’.
