• It was declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2011.
• Objective : To highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.
• Idea put forward by jazz pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock.
  • UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador is an official postnominal honorific title, title of authority, legal status and job description assigned to those goodwill ambassadors and advocates who are designated by the United Nations.

What is Jazz?

• Music Genre(a style or category of art, music, or literature).
• Origin : In African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
