INTERNATIONAL VERSION OF UMANG APPLICATION

Context

The Union Information Technology Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the International version of the UMANG - Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance application on November 23, 2020.

Details

• It was launched only in the selected countries namely the UK, Canada, US, Australia, Netherlands, New Zealand, UAE, Australia and Singapore.
• It was launched in alliance with the Ministry of External Affairs.

Significance

• The application will help to spread Indian culture to the world through its services and create interest amongst foreign tourists to visit India.
• It will help Indian international students, Indian tourists abroad and NRIs to use Government of India services.

Key Features

• It provides integration of services such as Digi locker and Aadhaar.
• It can also be used to avail several e-government services such as Employment Provident Fund Organisation services, pension, filing Income Tax, Crop Insurance, e-land records, epathshala, etc.
• Integration of IMD services with UMANG will help to check the weather forecast of seven weather services such as rainfall information, cyclones, warnings, sunrise, humidity, sunset, etc of the cities in advance.
