Issue of commemorative Postage Stamp on Rajkumar Shukla

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Communications and Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Rajkumar Shukla.

Rajkumar Shukla was instrumental in drawing attention of Mahatma Gandhi to the plight of Champaran peasants suffering under the oppressing rule of Britishers. And Finally, Mahthma Gandhi started Champaran Satyagrah in 1917 which resulted in peasants getting fair settlement.

Gandhi in his autobiography wrote “I must confess that I did not then know even the name, much less the geographical position, of Champaran, and I had hardly any notion of indigo plantations.” It must have been Shukla who apprised him about the poor conditions of Indigo planters in Champaran, Bihar.
