Javelin thrower Annu Rani won bronze in the ‘Ostrava Golden Spike Athletics meet 2019’

Indian javelin thrower Annu Rani, who has been steady in the 60m range this season, won the women’s javelin bronze in the 58th Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet, an IAAF World Challenge event, at Ostrava (Czech Republic) on June 20. She had a best throw of 60.20m.

Croatia’s Sara Kolak, the Olympic champion who has a personal best of 68.43m, took the gold while Slovenia’s Martina Ratej bagged the silver.

Annu Rani is the first Indian woman javelin thrower to qualify for the World Championships. She broke her own National record with a 62.34m effort in the Federation Cup in Patiala in March and qualified for this September’s World Championships 2019 in Doha.

Golden Spike is an annual athletics event at the Městský Stadion in Ostrava-Vítkovice, Czech Republic as part of the IAAF World Challenge Meetings. It was first organized in 1961.
