KACHAI LEMON FESTIVAL

Context:

On January 13 and 14, 2022, the 18th edition of the Kachai Lemon Festival was held in Manipur.

Key Points:

• It was conducted at the Local Ground of Kachai Village in the Ukhrul district of Manipur.
• The theme of the festival - ‘Organic Kachai Lemon for Safe Environment and Rural Transformation’.

Kachai Lemon Festival:

• It is an annual festival organised in Manipur to promote its unique lemon fruit and encourage lemon farmers.
• This year, 260 stalls have been set up at the festival, which marks the rich lemon harvest this year at the opening of the ceremony.
• The lemon farmer training program was held as part of the festival.

• Manipur's Kachai Lemon has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) registration tag.
• The Kachai Lemon is widely grown in Kachai Village in the Ukhrul district.
• Kachai Lemon is considered a unique source of ascorbic acid and is famous for its juice, unlike other lemons grown in other parts of the world.
