Matru Pushti Uphaar scheme launched by Tripura Government

The government of Tripura has announced an ambitious scheme called Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar, to combat maternal and infant mortality and malnutrition by providing nutrition kits to pregnant and lactating women.

Key Points:

  • Under the scheme, pregnant women would be tested four times in the nearest Primary Health Centers (PHC) and will be provided with a nutrition kit after each test is conducted.
  • The cost of the kit is Rs.500 and comprises food items and grocery supplies, like soya beans, peanuts, jaggery, mixed pulses and ghee.
  • The scheme will be beneficial for 40,000 women annually under the scheme and will cost the government Rs.8 crores.
  • The scheme is being provided in addition to the Pradhan Mantri Matru Bandana Yojana.
  • Under the revised guidelines the state will grant six eggs per week, along with 200 ml milk and 20 gm jaggery to the children suffering from severe acute malnourishment (SAM) on six days of a week.
  • The added benefits will incur an expense of Rs. 23 lakh annually.
  • The maternal mortality in India decreased to 122 in every 1 lakh live birth in 2015-17 from slowing down from 130 per 1 lakh live births in 2014-16.
