MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE & FARMERS WELFARE PROPOSED THE NATIONAL MISSION FOR EDIBLE OIL

Context

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has proposed the National Mission for Edible Oil to increase the domestic availability and reduce the import dependency.

• The mission has been proposed for the next 5 years in the span of 2020-21 to 2024-25.

National Mission for Edible Oil (NMEO):

• It comprises of the 3 Sub-Missions into it with the aim of increasing the production of oilseeds and edible oils from the below mentioned 3 sources:
  • Primary Sources: It includes the Plantation Crops, Annual Crops and Edible TBOs.
  • Secondary Sources: It includes Rice bran oil and Cottonseed oil.
  • Consumer Awareness to maintain the edible oil consumption at 19.00 kg/person/annum.
