MINISTRY OF POWER ISSUES DIRECTIONS TO NTPC AND DVC

Context:

In view of the Declared Capacity (DC) power allocated to DISCOMs in Delhi over the past 10 days, the Ministry of Power has issued directives on 10.10.2021 to NTPC and DVC as below for power supply in Delhi. This will ensure that the Delhi distribution companies will receive as much power as their request as per their demand.

The following directions are provided:

  • NTPC and DVC can provide declared power (DC) to Delhi DISCOMS according to their allocation under PPAs, from their coal-based power stations.
  • Both NTPC and DVC are committed to providing as much electricity to Delhi as required by DISCOMs in Delhi.
  • The NTPC may donate the declared power (DC) to DISCOMS in Delhi according to its allocation (from power stations) made to them under various PPAs.
  • Gas available from all sources including SPOT, LT-RLNG etc. can be imported while supplying DC to Delhi DISCOMs.

Additional Guidelines:

  • Additional guidelines have been issued regarding the use of undivided energy, on 11.10.2021 to meet the growing demand for coal-based power generation.
  • Under these guidelines, the states of the United States are required to use unallocated power to supply electricity to State consumers; and in the event of a power shortage, the states are requested to come together to redistribute this power to a needy Government.
  • In addition, if any State is found to be selling power in exchange or does not divide this unallocated state, their undivided power may be temporarily reduced or revoked and redistributed to other countries in need of that power.
