Ministry of Road Transport and Highways proposes new rules for the promotion of tourism

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has proposed new rules and regulations for the promotion of Tourism and increase the revenue flow from the Tourism sector. MoRTH is planning to offer All India Tourist Authorization or Permit via a digital medium to any operator of the tourist vehicle across the country.

Key Points:

• The Ministry had published the ‘All India Tourist Vehicles Authorization and Permit Rules, 2020’ on 1 July 2020.
• Suggestions and recommendations have been invited by the Ministry from stakeholders and the public for the proposed draft rules called ‘All India Tourist Vehicles Authorization and Permit Rules, 2020’.
• Flexibility has been provided under the scheme in the form of permit or authorization. The scheme will also provide a valid permit for three months or its multiples and should not be more than three years at a time.
• The government has included the provision in view of the limited season of Tourism in certain areas of the country.
• Under the proposed draft rules, the authorization will not be given to a vehicle once 12 years have been completed from the date when the vehicle was first registered, and all such permits will be issued within the time frame of 30 days of submission of application.
• The application has to be made in the electronic mode only on the MoRTH website or the transport authority.
