MISSION DEPLOYED - INS TABAR: EXPLAINED

Context:

For improving military cooperation with friendly nations, the Indian Naval Ship INS Tabar was deployed for more than three months on June 13, 21. During its deployment, she made 11 port calls in 9 countries European and African countries, traversing nearly 20,000 nautical miles. In all the ports, the ship was warmly welcomed by the local authorities and was visited by a number of local dignitaries.

About Ship’s Port Visits:

  • The ship's port visits saw a number of social and professional interactions conducted with the host countries.
  • The ship also undertook 12 maritime partnership exercises.
  • These include outstanding international exercises such as Exercise Konkan 21 and Royal Navy and Exercise Indra-Navy 21 and Russian Navy.
  • These exercises included a variety of emergencies and variations involving wide-ranging and multi-dimensional evolutions covering a diverse range of naval operations.
  • The exercises are deemed to have enhanced interoperability among participating military vessels and increasing the freedom they can work together to deal with shared concerns and threats if needed.
  • A few of these exercises have been for women, such as the Royal Norwegian Navy, the Algerian Navy and the Sudan Navy.

  • It was commanded by Captain Mahesh Mangipudi.

INS Tabar:

  • It is a stealth frigate and has a crew of 300 personnel.
  • Belonging to the Western Fleet, earlier, she had participated in counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden.
