MISSION INDRADHANUSH: ODISHA TOPS LIST

Context

The enhanced Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 has been rolled out in the state from March 7 to boost 100% immunisation coverage of the targeted women and children towards preventative health care for mothers and children. Apart from the effective COVID-19 vaccination, Odisha has the highest total immunisation coverage, at 90.5 per cent.

Key Points

  • According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-5, Odisha ranked first for full immunisation coverage.
  • During a review meeting on the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0, which was launched across the state on March 7, RK Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Health, mentioned this.
  • Odisha's twenty districts had full immunisation rates of over 90%, while the remaining ten districts had less than 90%.
  • Ganjam, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, Koraput, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Khurda, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh were chosen for participation in the Intensified Mission Indradhanush based on the composite index assessment.

What exactly does "complete immunisation" entail?

  • The whole vaccine package includes preventive doses for 12 different diseases. Tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, diphtheria, jaundice, tetanus, whooping cough, brain fever, HIV, measles, pneumonia, diarrhoea, rubella, Japanese fever, and other diseases are among the disorders.

Vaccination Campaign

  • The immunisation push under IMI would be done in three rounds, with each round administering differing doses of several vaccines.
  • Pregnant women who are unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated, as well as toddlers under the age of two, would be the first to be targeted.
  • Vaccination would occur in three rounds. The first began on March 7, the second on April 4, and the third began on May 2, lasting seven days.
  • Children of migrants to surrounding towns, children born in households, brick kiln workers, nomadic tribes, urban slums, construction workers, prisoners, orphanages, tribal enclaves, and hard-to-reach locations will all be highlighted.
  • The vaccinations would be scheduled around the community's convenience, and the vaccination camps would be easily accessible.
  • Raising awareness and organising people on the ground will involve community leaders, NGOs, PRI representatives, Anganwadi workers, and ASHA workers.

Indradhanush Mission

  • Mission Indradhanush is a healthcare project launched by the Indian government. On December 25, 2014, it was originally released.
  • By 2022, this programme aims to attain 90 per cent complete immunisation coverage in India and maintain it.
  • Vaccination against Whooping Cough, Diphtheria, Polio, Tetanus, a severe form of Childhood Tuberculosis, Measles, and Hepatitis B, as well as pneumonia and meningitis caused by Haemophilus influenza type B, Japanese Encephalitis, and Rotavirus Diarrhea is being provided in a few states and districts across the country.
