Context:

For the 74th Army Day event, celebrated on January 15, 2022, the 'Monumental National Flag', the world's largest Khadi-made flag, was displayed at Rajasthan's Jaisalmer.

Key Points:

• On the India-Pakistan border at Longewala, the Khadi tricolor will be displayed in the western part of the Jaisalmer district.
• During the historic battle of Longewala in 1971, the Longewala was the battle site. The battle was fought between India-Pakistan.

About Monumental National Flag:

• The flag is 225 meters long and 150 meters wide.
• It weighs about 1400 kg.
• Seventy khadi artisans prepared the flag in 49 days.
• Its production created nearly 3500 hours of additional work for khadi artisans and their co-workers.
• Around 4500 meters of handmade Khadi hand-woven, hand-spun, Khadi cotton bunting was used to make a flag.
• It covers an area of ​​33,750 square meters.
• The Ashok Chakra in the flag is 30 meters wide.

Past Displays of the Flag:

• This will be the 5th National Flag exhibition, after its first launch in Leh on October 2,
• It was later shown at Hindon Airbase to mark Air Force Day on October 8, 2021, and at Red Fort on October 21, 2021, marking the completion of 100 crore Covid-19 vaccinations across India.
• In addition, it was exhibited at Naval Dockyard near Gateway of India in Mumbai, December 4, 2021, to celebrate Navy Day.
