MoU signed between CBDT and SEBI for the exchange of data

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), for the exchange of data between the two organisations.

Key Points:

  • The data and information will be exchanged between the two organisations on a regular and automatic basis.
  • The two organizations will also undertake the exchange of any information available in their databases on request and suo moto basis that would provide assistance in their functions under various laws.
  • The MoU will be enforced from the date on which it is signed. The initiative of exchange of data between the CBDT and SEBI, is in addition to the several existing mechanisms.
  • For overlooking the initiative a Data Exchange Steering Group has also been constituted, that will hold periodic and regular meetings and review the status of exchange of data and take actions to enhance the effectiveness of mechanisms involved in sharing of data.
  • The agreement signed between the two organisations marks the beginning of a new era of synergy, cooperation and coordination.
