MSME Day observed on 27 June

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day is observed on 27 June every year to recognize the importance of MSME in achieving the goals of sustainable development and promotion of creativity, innovation and sustainable work for all.

  • The theme for MSME Day 2020 is “COVID-19: The Great Lockdown and its impact on Small Business”.
  • The 74th plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly held on 6 April 2017 proclaimed 27 June as the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day.
  • Different countries define the size of businesses in different manners.
  • The European Commission for reference defines micro, small and medium-sized enterprises on the basis of the annual turnover or balance sheet and the number of employees.
  • Micro-enterprises have less than 10 employees with an annual turnover or balance sheet below 2 million euros.
  • The number of employees in a small enterprise is less than 50 and has a balance sheet or annual turnover of fewer than 10 million euros.
  • The medium-sized enterprises have less than 250 employees and a balance sheet of fewer than 43 million euros or an annual turnover below 50 million.
  • Businesses rely on a facilitating business environment and play an important role in the creation of decent jobs and enhanced livelihoods.
