NARI SHAKTI PURASKAR 2021

Context:

According to the PIB press release dated January 15, 2022, nominations for Nari Shakti Puraskar, 2021 are open until January 31, 2022.

Nari Shakti Puraskar:

• Launched in 1999, it is the highest Civilian Honour for Women in India.
• The President of India presents Nari Shakti Puraskar on International Women's Day (March 8) annually.
• Nari Shakti Puraskar holds a cash prize of Rs.2 Lakh and a certificate for individuals and institutions.
• The Ministry of Women and Child Development announces these national-level awards for individuals/groups/Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)/institutions.

Eligibility:

• According to the Guidelines, any person at least 25 years old and in institutions that have worked in the relevant field for at least five years is eligible to apply.

Award Criteria:

• To encourage women to participate in decision-making.
• To enhance the women's skills development in the traditional and non-traditional fields.
• To promote the essential services for rural women.
• To empower women in non-traditional fields such as science and technology, sports, arts, and culture positively.
• It is an important work that focuses on safety and security, health and well-being, education, health skills, respect and dignity of women, etc.

Objectives:

• It demonstrates the government's commitment to strengthening women's position in society.
• It will also provide an opportunity for Young Indians to understand the contribution of women to nation and nation-building.
• It will also assist in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of 2030 (SDGs).
• SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
