National Book Trust has launched #StayHomeIndiaWithBooks initiative

The National Book Trust(NBT) operating under the Ministry of Human Resource and Development has launched Stay Home India with Books Initiative to encourage people to read books while at home amid the coronavirus scare.

Key Points:

  • The Initiative was launched on 25 March, and more than a hundred books are available for FREE Download in PDF format, as part of the #StayHomeIndiaWithBooks! Programme.
  • The books can be downloaded from the NBT's portal https://nbtindia.gov.in.
  • The books are available in Asamiya, Bangla, Bodo, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kokborok, Malayalam, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Sanskrit, and Urdu.
  • The books cover various genres of biography, fiction, popular science, teacher's handbook, and primarily for children and young adults.
  • Moreover, books from authors of the likes of Premchand and Tagore is also available and books on Mahatma Gandhi
  • Few of the selected titles are A Touch of Glass, Gandhi: Warrior of Non-Violence, Gandhi Tatva Satkam, Holidays Have Come, Nine Little Birds, The Puzzle, Women Scientists in India etc.
  • The books can only be downloaded for reading and cannot be used for any other commercial purpose.

Note:

  • The National Book Trust (NBT) of India was established by the then Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the year 1957.
  • NBT aims to produce and encourage the dissemination of good literature in English and Hindi and multiple other Indian languages and to provide books at fair prices.
