National Press Day

Press Council of India organized an event in the capital Delhi on National Press Day. Every year 16 November is celebrated as National Press Day this is the establishment day of the Press Council of India.

 Key points

  • Journalists were honored for outstanding work in the field of journalism on this occasion.
  • Chief Guest in the program was Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
  • Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award for Rajasthan Magazine Chairman Gulab Kothari.
  • Along with this, 9 other journalists working in the field of journalism were also honored in various categories.
  • There is a seminar that was organized in the capital Delhi on the occasion of Press Day. And the seminar theme was - “Reporting Interpretation - A journey”.
  • For monitoring the work of the press and ensure its independence, the First Press Commission recommended the constitution of a full-fledged council.

About National Press Day

  • National Press day was formed on 16 November 1966.
  • It is symbolic of a free and responsible press in the country.
  • The Press Council of India was first constituted on 4th July 1966.
  • It was the day Press Council of India (PCI) assumed the role of the moral watchdog to the fourth pillar of the country, for ensuring that the press maintains the quality and high standards.
