National video Conference on evolving Kharif Crops

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare aims to achieve the kharif target and double the farmer’s income in mission mode. The central government will remove any obstacles that the States are facing.

Key Points:

  • The National Video conference on Kharif Crops was chaired by Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar.
  • The objective of the National Kharif Video Conference was to scrutinize various issues and enumerate steps after discussing it with the State Governments regarding the measures taken to ensure Kharif cultivation during the lockdown situation.
  • The target of food grains for the year 2020-21 was fixed at 298 million tonnes.
  • It will be made sure that “Gaon, Garib aur Kisan” (Village, Poor and Farmers) are not suffering during the pandemic.
  • The PM Fasal Bima Yojana and Soil Health Card scheme will be explained to each farmer to help them tide over the crisis.
  • A larger amount of production approximating to 292 million tonnes is expected as a consequence of the increase in the coverage area and productivity of several crops.
  • India follows China as the second-largest producer of vegetables.
