NDTV Wins International Press Institute Of India Award For Excellence in Journalism

India’s private news channel has been awarded the International Press Institute of India award for excellence in journalism, by the India chapter of the Vienna based International Press Institute. This award was given to NDTV for its ‘expose of the conspiracy to scuttle’ the Kathua rape and murder case probe.

Highlights

  • A jury of eminent editors headed by Soli Sorabjee, former Attorney General of India unanimously selected NDTV for this award.
  • NDTV also exposed political hypocrisy across the political spectrum, NDTV was awarded for this excellence in journalism.

About International Press Institute of India Award

  • This award was instituted in 2003 by IPI.
  • It recognizes and honors excellence in journalism by an Indian Media, organization, Journalist in print, TV and internet medium.
  • Furtherance of public interest, freedom of the Press and safeguarding human rights are taken into consideration before giving this award.
  • The award comprises a trophy, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 2Lakh.
  • The first IPI Award for Excellence in Journalism was given in 2003 to Indian Express for reporting Gujarat Riots.
  • In 2004 NDTV had won this award for exposing baby-swapping racket in Hyderabad, Telgi Stamp corruption trail.
  • Tehelka, Hindustan Times and Karan Thapar are some other awardees.
  • The International Press Institute was founded in October 1950, by a group of editors from 15 countries.
  • It has become a truly global organization committed to further freedom of the press.
  • India chapter of IPI has an active forum of editors, publishers, senior executives of newspapers.
