Close to the main group of islands is the Barren Island, which is India’s only active volcano. It erupted recently after remaining inactive for 200 years. Most of these islands are uninhabited. Some of the tribes found here are still very primitive and do not welcome visitors.

Little Andaman is separated from the Great Andamans by the Duncan Passage. It is home to the Sentinelese people, an uncontacted people. Most of these islands are made of tertiary sandstone, limestone and shale resting on basic and ultrabasic volcanoes.
