Economy

• Bilateral trade between India and China reached $125.6 billion in 2021, with India's imports from China accounting for $97.5 billion. Imports were higher by 30% from 2019, while India's exports to China, amounting to $28.1 billion, were up by as much as 56% from two years earlier.
• As part of the policy reforms initiated in the telecom sector, the Department of Telecom (DOT) has issued the "Revised terms & conditions for issue/renewal of NOC for sale/rent of International Roaming SIM Cards/ Global Calling Cards of Foreign Operators in India". The revised policy mandates the NOC holders to provide information regarding customer care service, contact details, escalation matrix, itemised bills, information related to tariff plans, services offered, etc.

National Affairs

• Ministry of Textiles cleared 20 strategic research projects worth INR 30 crores in Specialty fibres and Geotextiles. These strategic research projects fall under the Flagship Programme' National Technical Textiles Mission.'
• Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi Launches New Rehabilitation & Resettlement Policy of NLC India Ltd. applicable to landowners of NLCIL mines area. 
• Minister of State for Education Shri Subhas Sarkar addressed the Assistive Technology Innovation Showcase for inclusive Education organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, in association with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, on 17th January 2022.
• India's Cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 158.04 Cr.
• To promote inclusive good governance, strengthening of local institutions and effective implementation of government programmes, the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), Government of India and National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRD & PR), Hyderabad signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, 17th January '22.
• The Ministry of Power recently released revised guidelines for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The ministry has released these guidelines to increase the adoption of EVs and fasten the adoption.
• India Post Payments Bank customer base crosses 5 Crore. It has become one of the fastest-growing digital payments banks in the country.

International Affairs

• Mrs World 2022 pageant took place in Las Vegas, Nevada; Mrs America Shaylyn Ford was crowned as the winner. Mrs Jordan & Mrs UAE were the runner up.
• The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, delivered the 'State of the World' special address at the World Economic Forum's Davos Agenda via video conferencing on 17th January 2022.
• Lipulekh boundary Issue: Indian embassy calls for dialogue with Nepal on the Lipulekh boundary issue: India is currently widening the road to the Lipulekh pass. The Nepalese ruling party recently issued a statement objecting to this. Also, Nepal has demanded India withdraw its troops in the region. Nepal also claimed the Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura regions.

• Shanti Devi, a social crusader and a Padma Shri awardee, died at the age of 88 years old on 17th January in Rayagada, Odisha.
• Cartoonist Narayan Debnath died at 97 on 18th January 2022. He created some immortal cartoon characters for Bengali readers, such as Bantul the Great, Handa Bhonda and Nonte Fonte.

State Current Affairs

Haryana's 75% Job Reservation For Locals Comes Into Force: The Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act, 2020, applies to jobs offering a maximum gross monthly salary or wages of ₹ 30,000, and it came into effect.
