Economy

• The All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base: 1986-87=100) for December 2021 increased by 5 points each to stand at 1097 and 1106.
• Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) has observed 'Agri Nutri Garden Week' from 10th to 17th January 2022 through an awareness campaign and encouraging the establishment of 'Agri Nutri Gardens' in the rural households.
• The Reserve Bank of India recently released the Digital Payment Index. According to the index, digital payments in the country increased by 40% in September 2021 compared to March 2021.

National Affairs

• TCIL, a Mini Ratna Category-1 Status Company under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, with support of SDMC, launched the first e-vehicle charging station in the South Delhi area at South Extn. Part I on 20.01.2022.
• The gigantic and magnificent scrolls created under the unique initiative 'Kala Kumbh' were installed at Rajpath for Republic Day 2022 celebrations.
• India and Sri Lanka extended the existing S&T cooperation for three more years, with a focus on new areas like waste-water technologies, biotech, sustainable agriculture, aerospace engineering, robotics, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence, as well as industrial collaborations at the India-Sri Lanka 5th Joint Committee on S&T Cooperation held on January 20, 2022.
• NITI Aayog, Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), and RMI India released a report titled 'Banking on Electric Vehicles in India', which outlines the importance of priority-sector recognition for retail lending in the electric mobility ecosystem. The report provides considerations and recommendations to inform the inclusion of EVs in the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) priority-sector lending (PSL) guidelines.

International Affairs

• The International Energy Agency (IEA) released its early 2022 edition of the bi-annual Electricity Market Report. 
• On January 27, PM Modi will host India – Central Asia Summit. The five central Asian presidents will attend the summit. They are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyz republic. 
• The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Investment Trends Monitor was published on January 19, 2022. As per the report, Global FDI flows showed a strong rebound in 2021. It grew to 77 per cent to an estimated USD 1.65 trillion. In 2020, the FDI flow was USD 929 billion.
• Recently, India and Denmark have agreed to initiate joint research and development on green fuels, including green hydrogen, as part of the already adopted Green Strategic Partnership - Action Plan 2020-2025.

Environment Affairs

• Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, delivers India's statement at the Fourth Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation.
• As per a recent study, one of the oldest known Homo sapiens fossils, Omo Kibish I, maybe around 35,000 years older than previously thought.
• The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change recently launched the "Star Rating System". The system provides environmental clearance in a short duration.

Science and Technology Affairs

• A group of scientists recently discovered a new planet. The planet is the size of Jupiter. The new planet is 379 light-years away from the earth. It is 105 times denser than the earth. The planet is named TOI-2180 b.
• BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, with enhanced capability, successfully test-fired off Odisha coast.
• A recent Lancet study says that Antimicrobial resistance is now the leading cause of death. It has surpassed HIV and malaria. The study says that in 2019 antimicrobial resistance killed more than 1.27 million people worldwide.
