  • Union Agriculture Minister addresses 4th National Conference on Agriculture for Summer Campaign 2021-22.  
  • Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has notified the Scheme on Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector- Phase-II. It aims to provide assistance to Common Technology Development and Services Infrastructure. The scheme has a financial outlay of Rs. 1207 crores with Budgetary support of Rs.975 crore and Industry Contribution of Rs.232 crore. The scheme was notified on 25th January 2022.  
  • Electronic Goods Exports recorded a whopping growth of 49% in April-December 2021 by clocking USD 11.0 Billion (Provisional) over USD 7.4 Billion during the same period in the year 2020. USA (18%), UAE (16.6%) top two Electronic Exports destinations. 
  • Ministry of Textiles has extended the timeline for submitting applications under the PLI Scheme for Textiles until 14.02.2022.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) handles a record cargo of 5.63 Million TEUs in 2021, a growth of 25.86% over the last calendar year. 

National Affairs

  • Union Minister of State for Culture Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi released a pictorial book on India’s Women Unsung Heroes of Freedom Struggle as part of Azadi ka Mahotsav in New Delhi on 28th January 2022. 
  • The Directorate of Goods and Service Tax Intelligence, Ghaziabad Regional Unit officials, bust a bogus network of 275 firms involving more than Rs 3,100 crore fake invoices. 
  • The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) observed the International Customs Day, 2022, on 28th January. The theme for this year is “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem’’. 
  • Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri Mansukh Mandaviya launched NIPER Research Portal. 
  • The Indian Naval Placement Agency (INPA) and IIFL Home Finance Ltd (IIFL HFL) signed an MoU on 27th January 22. Both entities will explore opportunities to recruit Naval Veterans within IIFL HFL. They would endeavour to provide an opportunity for Veterans/Ex-servicemen/dependents competent for various roles in their organisation. 
  • In a boost to maritime security, the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) MK III aircraft was formally inducted at INS Utkrosh by Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) Lieutenant General Ajai Singh at Port Blair on 28th January 2022. 
  • INS Khukri (P49)was handed over to the Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNHDD) Administration on 26th January 2022. It is planned to be converted into a museum by the Diu Administration for public visits. 
  • BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) signed a contract with the Department of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines on 28th January 2022 to supply Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System to the Philippines. 
  • ‘Beating the Retreat’ Ceremony 2022: 1,000 ‘Make in India’ drones to enthral the audience for the first time. ‘Beating the Retreat’ is a centuries-old military tradition dating from the days when troops disengaged from the battle at sunset. As soon as the buglers sounded the retreat, the troops ceased fighting, sheathed their arms and withdrew from the battlefield. 
  • Lok Sabha secretariat launches the Digital Sansad app for ease of use access to proceedings.
  • Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, in partnership with the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Agence Française de Développement (AFD), launched the Swachhata Start-Up Challenge on 27th January 2022. It aims to provide an impetus to innovative start-ups to come forward and drive catalytic transformation in the sanitation and waste management sector. 

International Affairs

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi hosted the first India-Central Asia Summit in virtual format on 27th January 2022. The Summit was attended by Presidents of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan.
  • International Holocaust Remembrance Day: International Holocaust Remembrance Day is observed every 27th January to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945.

  • Lala Lajpat Rai's birth anniversary (28th January): Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, pays tributes to Lala Lajpat Rai on his Jayanti.
  • Charanjit Singh, hockey captain who won back Olympic gold for India, passes away. Charanjit Singh captained the Indian team to glory at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; India beat Pakistan 1-0 in the final after losing to arch-rivals four years earlier.
