Economy: 

  • India's overall exports (Merchandise and Services combined) in May 2022* are estimated to be USD 62.21 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 24.03 per cent over the same period last year. 
  • According to the recently released Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for 2020-21, the unemployment rate has decreased by 0.6% and fell to 4.2% in 2020-21, compared with 4.8% in 2019-20. 
  • Rural areas recorded an unemployment rate of 3.3%, and urban areas recorded an unemployment rate of 6.7%. (as per PLFS 2020-21)
  • The labour force participation rate in the population was 41.6% during 2020-21. It was 40.1% during 2019-20. (as per PLFS 2020-21)
  • The Worker Population Ratio (WPR) was 39.8%, an increase from 38.2% of the previous year. (as per PLFS 2020-21)
  • The migration rate among women was 48% and 47.8% in rural and urban areas, respectively. (as per PLFS 2020-21)

National Affairs: 

  • Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has recently developed low-cost braces to enhance earthquake resistance in constructed structures. 
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the acquisition of the entire shareholding in Air Asia India by Air India. 
  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the acquisition of up to 24.98% shareholding of IIFL Wealth Management Limited by BC Asia Investments X Limited.
