  • SEBI’s Saa₹thi mobile app: The Securities and Exchange Board of India, SEBI launched the Saarthi mobile application. The application provides information about security markets. It is highly useful for investors.
  • Cabinet approves infusion of Rs.1,500 crore in Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA)
  • HAL signs contract with Mauritius for export of advanced light helicopter (ALH)
  • The Union Cabinet today has approved the extension of the tenure of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) on 19th January for three years beyond 31.3.2022. The total implication of the extension for three years would be approximately Rs.43.68 crore. The major beneficiaries would be the Safai Karamcharis and identified manual scavengers in the country since the NCSK for 3 more years beyond 31.3.2022.
  • Cabinet approves Scheme for grant of ex-gratia payment of the difference between compound interest and simple interest for six months to borrowers in specified loan accounts

National Affairs

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will jointly inaugurate the India-assisted Social Housing Units project  Civil Service College and 8MW Solar PV Farm projects in Mauritius under India’s development support virtually on 20 January 2022.
  • An Agreement on extending a US$ 190 mn Line of Credit (LoC) from India to Mauritius for the Metro Express Project and other infrastructure projects; and MoU on the implementation of Small Development Projects will also be exchanged.
  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs organized the Streets for People Challenge. The streets for people challenge focuses on making the streets walking friendly.
  • “Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav se Swarnim Bharat Ke Ore” was started by the Prime Minister of India on January 20, 2022.
  • The Border Security Force, BSF launches Operation Sard Hawa. Under the operation, the BSF increased surveillance on the Pakistan border. It is usually launched in the Rajasthan border, especially in the Jaisalmer region. It is a regular annual exercise. It is launched in the month of January.
  • The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has recommended granting regular market approval to COVID-19 vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin, in the adult population, subject to certain conditions, confirmed an official on Wednesday.
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Circuit House at Somnath on 21st January 2022 at 11 AM via video conferencing. The new Circuit House has been built at a cost of over Rs 30 crore and is located near the Somnath Temple. It is equipped with top-class facilities including suites, VIP and deluxe rooms, conference room, auditorium hall etc.
