National

  • Dr Ajay Kumar, India's Defence Secretary, has commissioned the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Saksham. At Goa, the sixth in a series of 105-meter Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs).
  • There has been a rise in interest in digital currencies since Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed them in her Budget 2022-2023 speech earlier this month.
  • India and Australia conducted a virtual summit on March 21. Critical investment, critical minerals, migration, defence, technological cooperation, and the digital sectors were all discussed at the conference. Overview: This summit was attended by Prime Minister Modi and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. In the year 2020, the first Virtual Summit was convened.
  • The Narasingapettai Nagaswaram has been designated as a Geographical Indication in the category of musical instruments of class 15.
  • The 9th edition of the Joint Military Exercise 'LAMITIYE-2022' between the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) took place at the Seychelles Defence Academy from March 22 to 31, 2022. (SDA).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison have advocated for a strong "Code of Conduct" in the South China Sea that complies with international law.

International

  • The Russo-Ukrainian War is a long-running conflict between Russia and Ukraine (with pro-Russian rebel forces). It began in February 2014, following Ukraine's Dignity Revolution, to gain international recognition for Crimea and parts of Donbas as part of Ukraine.
  • Turkmenistan's President, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, has been sworn in. Berdimuhamedow succeeds Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, his father and previous president, who took office in 2006 and lasted until 2022.
  • Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), has announced the nomination of Indian development economist Jayati Ghosh to the UN's newly formed Advisory Board.

State News

  • On March 21, 2022, senior BJP leader N Biren Singh was sworn in as Chief Minister of Manipur for a second consecutive five-year term.
  • The festival of colours, known as 'Dol Utsav' or 'Dol Jatra,' was held in West Bengal to mark the start of the spring season. The celebration is held on full moon day and is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radha.

  • For modest value transactions, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) established the "UPI Lite – On-Device wallet" ("UPI Lite") option for UPI users.
  • To give a digital push to small company loans, HDFC Bank has announced the launch of the "SmartHub Vyapar programme" and the "AutoFirst" app, the following two initiatives/applications.

  • On March 19, 2022, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrated its 83rd Raising Day with passion and ceremonial fervour.
  • Every year on March 22, the world commemorates World Water Day. The purpose of the day is to emphasise the importance of freshwater.
  • On March 21, World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is commemorated. It is a worldwide effort every year to raise awareness about Down Syndrome.
  • Every year on March 21, World Poetry Day is observed to honour poetry's unique capacity to capture the creative spirit of the human mind.

Sports

  • The Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix 2022 was won by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari-Monaco) at the Bahrain International Circuit, a motor racing circuit in the west of Bahrain. Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari – Spain) finished second, while Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes – United Kingdom) finished third. The first Formula One race of the year was held in 2022.
  • The 2022 BNP Paribas Open tennis competition, also known as the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, took place in Indian Wells, California, from March 07 through March 20, 2022.

  • Dr Tehemton Erach Udwadia, a Padma Awardee, has published a new book called "More than Just Surgery: Life Lessons Beyond the OT," a personal narrative of people, occurrences, mentors, failures, and follies set against the backdrop of surgery.
  • Francis Kéré, an architect, educator, and social activist, has been named the 2022 laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, widely regarded as architecture's top honour
  • At the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards at The Taj Mahal Palace hotel, Sportstar and The Hindu group launched a coffee-table book titled "Road to 1000."
  • Former Indian cricket captain Gundappa Ranganatha Vishwanath has written an autobiography called "Wrist Assured: An Autobiography," which he co-wrote with prominent writer R Kaushik.
