Context:

On January 17, 2022, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) announced the commencement of Open Data Week to promote open data adoption and innovation throughout the Indian urban ecosystem.

Key Points:

• Around 100 smart cities will participate in the event.
• Open Data Week is part of a series of pre-event programs developed by MoHUA to improve awareness and use of open data.
• It will be held during the third week of January, from January 17, 2022, to January 21, 2022.

What is Open Data?

• Open Data refers to the idea where data is freely available to everyone for use and republish, without copyright restrictions, copyrights, or other forms of control.

How to Participate?

• The open data week will witness participation from all 100 Smart Cities.
• These cities will publish high-quality data sets and blogs on the Smart Cities Open Data Portal.
• More than 3,800 data sets and more than 60 data stories are now available on the Smart Cities Open Data Portal for eligible participants to analyze and reveal potential information.
• The open data week event is divided into two parts; the first includes data uploads, visuals, APIs, and data blogs on the Smart Cities Open Data Portal.
