PAN-INDIA HELPLINE FOR SENIOR CITIZENS: ELDER LINE (TOLL-FREE NUMBER 14567)

Context:

Recognizing the growing need to support old elderlies in the country, the Indian government has taken a major step forward in addressing the challenges and problems they face, with pan-India’s first free telephone - 14567 - 'Elder Line', providing free information and pension guidance, legal issues, and emotional supportthem , and even intervene in the camp when there is abuse, and rescue the homeless elderly.

Significance of the ‘Elder Line’:

• The purpose of the ‘Elder Line’ is to provide all older people, or their well-wishers, with ONE platform across the country to connect and share their problems, to get information and guidance on the problems they face every day, without having to struggle with them.

Elder Line:

• It is the culmination of the Tata Trusts, India’s oldest philanthropy, run by a partner, the Vijayavahini Charitable Foundation, in 2017, in partnership with the Telangana Government in Hyderabad, to assist city elders.
• The Tata Trust has been and continues to be involved in strategic assistance, creating a profound, comprehensive and irreplaceable impact on the millions of lives in the communities we serve, divided by our level and depth of intervention in matters of national importance.
