PANGDA- THE NEW DISPUTED VILLAGE

Context

The media of China claimed that a new border village built by China near Bhutan was on Chinese territory. But the images released by Chinese Media show its location on territory quarrelled by the 2 countries.

Details

• Global Times- daily tabloid newspaper under the auspices of the Chinese Communist Party's People's confirmed that the village was built recently and residents moved in September.
• The daily tabloid newspaper showed the new village a couple of kilometres inside the Bhutanese Territory.

Bhutan’s Denial

• Bhutan’s officials denied the village being in their territory saying that there is no Chinese territory inside Bhutan.

Doklam plateau

• Pangda Village is said to be on the eastern periphery of the Doklam plateau, where, in 2017, India and China were involved in a stand-off.
• Doklam is an area with a plateau and a valley, lying between India's Sikkim state's Nathang Valley to the west, China's Chumbi Valley to the north, Bhutan's Ha Valley to the east.
