Precision safety eyewear for healthcare professionals developed by CSIO develops

A technology for the precision manufacturing of safety goggles has been developed by the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) for the healthcare professionals that are involved in the treatment of high viral load patients as the cases of COVID-19 increase in the country.

Key points:

  • The technology transfer for the precision manufacturing of goggles to the Sark Industries of Chandigarh for its mass production and commercialization took place on 26 June 2020.
  • The team that developed the technology was led by Chief Scientist and Head, Optical Devices and Systems, Dr Vinod Karar.
  • The designing and development of the safety goggles have taken place in consultation with various stakeholders and industry experts with the objective of developing an affordable and innovative precision manufacturing technique.
  • The safety goggles have been designed with a flexible frame in order to provide tighter sealing with the face and will cover the eyes and the areas surrounding it.
  • The googles comprise a lens made out of sturdy polycarbonate and also has an adjustable elastic strap for ease of wearing.
  • The protective eye gear will provide the healthcare professionals protection from hazardous aerosols and other suspended particles also. The safety goggles are also useful for the general public in crowded areas and public transports.
