Professor Saurabh Lodha receives Young Career Award from DST

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India has awarded the Young Career Award in Nano Science and Technology 2020 to Professor Saurabh Lodha from IIT Bombay.

Key Points:

  • He has been honored with the award for his pioneering contributions in the development of logic transistor technologies based on 2-D Van der Waals materials.
  • New materials and processes have been developed by Professor Saurabh Lodha, which can improve the thermal stability and reliability of the heart of the transistor- it’s thin (1-2 nm) gate dielectric.
  • The progress made in the field will help the future electronic devices like desktops, laptops, mobile phones, and servers, to perform efficiently and faster, consume less power, and last longer with decreased rates of failure.
  • Prof. Lodha’s group is also working with recently discovered 2-D materials similar to graphene, whose ultra-thin (less than a nm thick) nature makes the Van der Waals materials possess extraordinary optical and electronic properties in addition to the high mechanical flexibility.
  • The nature of the materials makes them less power-hungry and ideal candidates for Internet-of-Things (IoT) sensors as well as flexible and wearable electronics.
