Project ISSAC by IIT Gandhinagar

To engage students in creative projects and enhance skills a project named as “Project Isaac”  has been launched by IIT Gandhinagar. It has been inspired by Sir Isaac Newton, a student of Trinity College, Cambridge, who also stayed back home due to the Great plague of London in 1665.

The year 1665-1666 was later referred to as his annus mirabilis, the “year of wonders” as it lead to some of his profound discoveries such as early calculus, theories of optics and gravity.

Key Points:

  • Under the project, four different competitions are being organized by the institute, to develop new skills among students relating to painting, writing, coding, creative expression, music etc.
  • The competitions are held online which are entirely voluntary.
  • Project Isaac has introduced various contests with daily prizes and rewards for its students.
  • Project Isaac is an example for academic institutions across the globe to search for new ways to engage students in the middle of the pandemic. Some of the contests are like the 12 Days of Code competition where students work for 24 hours on new coding problems released everyday.
  • Under the Leadership Video Challenge, students have to watch handpicked Ted/TedX talks on leadership and write about it.
  • ‘Don’t Quarantine Your Cornea!’ is another contest, in which students have to write reviews of TV shows episode/movie/documentary/web series of their choice.
