Protocol developed by Scientists to determine Quantum Entanglement

A novel protocol has been developed by the Scientists working at the S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences (SNBNCBS), Kolkata, an autonomous institute functioning under the Department of Science and Technology to determine whether a pair of electrons are in an entangled state.

Key Points:

  • Determining the entangled state will help in using the electrons safely as resources for enabling quantum information processing tasks.
  • The development of protocol has taken place through theoretical and experimental analysis.
  • Quantum entanglement is the physical phenomenon which occurs when a pair or group of particles is generated, and they interact, in a manner, which makes it impossible to describe the quantum state of each particle of the pair or group independently of the state of the others.
  • The Quantum entanglement makes phenomena like quantum teleportation and super-dense coding possible.
  • Entangled states are key resources to facilitate many quantum information processing tasks and quantum cryptographic protocols. Entanglement is fragile and is lost easily in the process of transit, so to avoid this issue, devices are required to check the availability of resources.
  • The Device-independent self-testing (DIST) method can be utilized to know the availability of the electron to be used as the resources.
