RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) PILOT PROJECT

Context:

On December 28, 2021, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship digitally launched a project under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), a component of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The project is for upskilling the cane and bamboo artisans of Nagaland.

The objective of the Project:

• The aim of this program is to develop the skills of local weavers and artisans to improve their productivity through RPL testing and certification of traditional handicrafts. 
• The project aims to upskill more than 4,000 artists and craftsmen.

About the Project:

• The skills development project under the RPL is expected to improve the skills of the unorganized workforce present in the area.
• Artisans and weavers will be aligned with the standardized National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). 
• It will provide access to existing artisans and weavers to improve their skills as well as technical knowledge. 
• In addition, the pilot project will increase marketing skills and techniques, develop traditional and local arts for sugarcane and bamboo workers.
• Through Upskilling Bridge Module through the Government of India certification, the initiative will add value to the traditional handicrafts. 
• Under this program, each batch will run for 12 days.
