Roads will be ranked by NHAI based on Quality Service

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) functioning under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will conduct performance evaluation and ranking of the highways across the country.

Key Points:

  • The objective of Quality Service ranking is to keep a check on the quality of roads and highways in an effort to provide a higher level of quality and service to the highway commuters.
  • The evaluation parameters will be dependent on the various international practices and studies that benchmark highway performances in the context of India.
  • The Ministry of Roads Transport and Highways has categorised the criteria for evaluation under three primary heads: Highway Efficiency with a weight of 45 percent, Highway Safety with a weightage of 35 percent and User Service with a weight of 20 percent.
  • Based on the assessment of the outcome, NHAI will conduct a complete analysis and will make a decision on the level of intervention needed to improve the overall quality of the service.
  • The assessment will also consider the parameters such as access control, accident rate, availability of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), cleanliness, crash barriers, customer satisfaction, the functionality of structures, illumination, incident response time, operating speed, plantation, provision for grade-separated intersections, road markings, road signages, time taken at the toll plaza and wayside amenities.
  • The corridor ranking will be dynamic, and the operator will be given a chance to enhance their ranking by improving the services on that corridor.
