Context:

On January 19, 2022, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), capital markets regulator, launched a new mobile app called Saa₹thi on investor education.

About the App:

  • In the SaaRthi app, R is defined using the Indian Rupee (INR) symbol.
  • The primary purpose of this app is to inform investors about the basic concepts of the securities market.
  • The app uses both Hindi and English currently, while it will also be available in local languages in the future.
  • It is available for both iOS and Android users.

Aim of the App:

  • It aims to empower investors with information about the securities market, KYC process, recent market developments, trading and settlement, mutual funds, investor grievances, redressal mechanism, etc.

Why was the application started?

  • Recently, the number of individual investors entering the market has been growing.
  • Introduced the app to help these individual investors.
  • Also, new investors are using smartphones to make trades. So, they are helped by mobile apps.

Security Markets:

  • The markets where securities are bought and sold are called security markets. Securities mean guarantees.
  • The securities are taken care of if the person concerned fails to repay the loan.
  • In simple terms, securities are non-commercial financial instruments that raise money in the public and private markets.
